With its long history and cultural tradition, Changwon celebrates many general and special historical events.

Its unique culture elements include iron production during the Three Han(Samhan) Period, the Buddhist culture during the Three Kingdoms period and the Goryeo Dynasty, and Confucian culture during the Joseon Dynasty, while among its significant historical events as a military strategic location for marine protection include the Goryeo and Yuan China combined forces’ invasion of Japan at the end of Goryeo Dynasty, and the Tsushima invasion during the reign of King Sejong.
