Changwon Performing Art Group is a public art organization established for the purpose of fostering citizens' sentiment and creating local culture and arts. It is operated by four art groups including Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra, Changwon City Chorale, Changwon Municipal Dance Company, and Changwon boys and girls choir. It is an art organization representing Changwon.
Since its launch in 2010 in Changwon, it has been receiving enthusiastic response from citizens and audience by holding small and large performances with diverse programs.
In addition, we are leading the development of local culture and arts by producing and directing creative performances as well as large-scale stage performances such as operas, musicals and dance plays.
To operate an efficient and systematic art group, we have been operating the city art group's secretariat since August 2015.
In the future, the City Art Group will not only create high-quality performances with unremitting enthusiasm for the creation of art, but also make its best efforts to become a world-class art group.
Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra, is founded in 2010 combined with City of Changwon, Masan, and Jinhae, In past, Masan Philharmonic Orchestra founded in 1984 and performed through out more than 850 concerts. Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra founded in 1991 and performed more than 800 concerts. In accordance with started by associated City of Changwon, Masan and Jinhae, combined two Philharmonic Orchestras, and this was the first combined Philharmonic Orchestra in Korea(2011)
Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra attended in Symphony Festival at Art Hall(Jeonju), Voice Festival, Yeongnam Modern Music Festival and Tongyoung Modern Music Festival, and also received a favorable comment the Gala concert of 2008 Beijing Olympic Game and the 16th anniversary of Korea-China diplomatic relations' celebration concerts in Chiana. Changwon Philharmonic was recognized the playing ability by challenging performances of contemporary composers such as Yun Yesang, Penderecki, Lutoslawski and Schoenberg, especially "Gurrelieder" of Schoenberg was first time performed in Korea.
Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra also received a public favor through out a various operas, to play the best power and the best performances held in music festival with under worldwide conductors. To develop cultural art of popularization and local cultures, Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra presented a beautiful melody of Marine Music Festival, Exchange Music Concert, Campus Music Concert, Youth Music Night, Loving Enterprising Music Concert, Lunch Time Concert.
After combined to one big city, Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra with 130 players, became a new icon in Korea and developing impressive music characters under Music director, Daejin Kim through out the nation.
Changwon City Chorale is a newly created choir of three cities, Changwon, Masan and Jinhae, which was integrated and created in 2012 after the three cities were launched as integrated Changwon cities in July 2010. As a single choir, it boasts the largest scale and grandest sound of about 90 people. The Changwon City Chorale has inherited Changwon's historical artistic sense and is expanding its art world from baroque to contemporary creative songs, Korean songs and folk songs, as well as opera <Magic Flute>, creative musical <Songs of the Sea> and musical concert <Les Miserables>. It is also a symbol of harmony through art, offering beautiful harmonies to Changwon citizens, and singing of dreams and hopes of containing local culture through classical choral. It pursues steady development and performance of local culture, art and content. In 2016, he introduced Changwon's harmony to the world at the classical music's home turf of Austria's Graz, Vienna and Weiz through the International Exchange Music Concert.
The conductor, KONG KEE-TAE, who had been making a constant effort to study beautiful sound and wonderful harmony, moved to the United States in 1997. He was conferred master degree, which is about the classical music of the Renaissance and English orthodox academic tradition of chorus, after studying under Dr. Eph Ehly and Dr. Simon Carrington, a world-famous choral conductor and a noted authority on choral teaching method of the graduate school of University of Missouri Kansas City and Kansas State University.
Further, he was admitted into Arizonan State University(ASU), taking the doctoral degree course, studying under Dr. David Stocker, Karen Parthun, George Umberson, and David Schildkret, and was conferred the doctor degree in ACM conduct after his study of the modern choral music style and new choral academic tradition of United States. While in school he got distinguished as promising student and he won Chancellor’s Non-Resident Award, School of Music, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Dean’s Award, Herberger College of Fine Arts, Arizona State University and Choral Full Scholarship, School of Music, Arizona State University, and came to extend his ability as conductor by conducting Graduate School Choir, Conductors Ensemble and Mission Ensemble of Arizona State University.
Being good at organizing events and having full experiences in presiding over a meeting he, secretary of Korean Federation For Choral Music, built up experiences in international events by serving as the executive committee member in the 10th World Symposium on Choral Music held in Korea in 30 years.
He served as deputy conductor of the Daegu Municipal Chorus, standing conductor of the Pohang Municipal Chorus and artistic director, standing conductor of the Cheongju Municipal Chorus. director of Korean Federation For Choral Music, director of Korean Choral Directors Association, director of Korean Church Music Association, member of Korean Choir Study Academy and Affiliated professor of Daegu Catholic University.
Kong, who started to serve as artistic director & chief conductor of Changwon City Chorale, has been striving to impress Changwon citizens with various repertoires and sophisticated choral music.
First established as the Gyeongnam Provincial Dance Company in 1984, the dance company, along with the prosperity of Changwon city, was renamed/re-established as the Changwon City Dance Company in March of 1987 and has been actively involved in the development of culture and arts within the Gyeongnam region ever since.
The Changwon City Dance Company has made great cultural contributions to the region by transmitting and re-creating Korean traditional dances, and also vitalizing dancing arts within the region.
Through its first permanent choreographer Lee Gyeong-Ae, 2nd permanent choreographer Lee Namju, 3rd permanent choreographer Baek Hyeon-Sun, 4th permanent choreographer Kim Pyeong-Ho, 5th permanent choreographer Han Sang-Geun and 6th permanent choreographer Kim Hyo-Bun, the Changwon City Dance Company has been continuing to create an easy-to-approach modernized interpretation of traditional dances in an effort to spread interest in the art of dancing, while forming an emotional bond with the citizens of Changwon.
The Changwon City Dance Company is looking forward to inherit and develop the tangible/intangible cultural assets of the Changwon region; discover new masterpieces that represent the identity of Changwon; develop new repertoires for Korean traditional dancing; and ultimately set a foundation for Changwon to become a great cultural city.
The Changwon City Dance Company will nurture both artistic value and mass appeal and will grow into a globally recognized dance company.

Sang-ah, Oh, an art director and a standing choreographer, graduated a bachelor`s and master`s in the department of dance at Sejong University and Graduate School, and earned a doctorate degree in performing arts from Sungkyunkwan University.
She has been building her 50 year of dance life by reflecting a word, 'Practice courtesy, do what is right and love dance with your heart, people will be on the same wavelength'.
Sang-ah, Oh who brings warn energy and healthy and dynamic dance to the stage is well qualified to be an four noble ones of dance. Each meaning of plum flower, orchid, chrysanthemum, bamboo from four noble ones is luxuriously appeared in her dance move.
Sang-ah, Oh, who breathes the breath of creation into a solid layer of traditional culture, tries to create today's dance that could breathe with the contemporary audiences.
She has met with the audiences more than 200 performances a year while she worked at the Busan National Gugak Center, also she has contributed greatly on creating jobs for young artists and expanding the boundaries of culture and art by performing "The Queen's Banquet" (Premiere choreography : Sang-ah, Oh) as the first Korean wave performance from the four Gugak centers, and from a successful result of 「Beautiful Korea, Dynamic Busan」 which was the special performance for cruise tourists.
Additionally, she contributed greatly to promote the excellence of Korean dance to the world through the opening ceremony of the 20th Busan International Film Festival 「華婚之舞 (Wedding dance)」,
A progressive artist, Sang-ah, Oh who devotes her art spirit to inherit our dance properly and to enhance the creative works and language of dance, would like to communicate through the contents that can be empathized with any residents in Changwon city.

Founded in 1991 to foster the emotions of children and adolescents through desirable cultural and artistic activities, the Changwon City Boys and Girls' Choir is a proud art mission of Changwon City that delivers choral songs of various genres to the local people with their beautiful harmony. Since its inception, it has held over 450 concerts, including 71 regular and special performances, and invited performances, a national youth and girl singing festival, an exchange concert, and a visiting music concert.
The choir was invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the World Korean Chamber of Commerce, the 2018 UNESCO International IAEC Joint Conference, the 2018 ISSF Changwon World Cup Shooting Competition, the opening ceremony of the 2018 Korea-African Economic Cooperation Conference, the opening ceremony of the 2018 World Shooting Championships, and the 59th anniversary of the March 15th democratic movement, as well as international cultural exchanges with Changwon’s sister cities including Ma-ansan and Dongneung of China.
